Excretion of radioactive carbon dioxide by rats after administration of isotopic bicarbonate, acetate, and succinate.

چکیده
The rate of excretion of C1402 has been followed after the intraperitoneal injection into rats of (1) isotopic bicarbonate, NaHC1403, (2) isotopic acetate, CH3C1400Na, and (3) isotopic succinate, Na00CCH&HzC1400Na. The data so obtained yield information on the rate at which CO2 participates in the metabolic processes of the body, as well as the rate at which isotopic carbon is eliminated following its administration in the three chemical forms. Previous measurements of excretion of isotopic CO, reported in the literature have been few and, in these few, the experiments were not designed to determine the rates of COz excretion following the administration of a single dose of isotopic material (l-3). In the present experiments, the excretion of C1402 and total COz has been measured at frequent intervals up to 4 hours.

Induction of euthanasia using carbon dioxide in rat: an overview of the available practical guidelines
Background and aims: Euthanasia is used to define ending an animal's life in a way that results in rapid anesthesia and death without pain or distress. One of the most common methods of performing euthanasia in rats is the administration of carbon dioxide (CO2). The aim of this study was to review the available practical guidelines for inducing euthanasia in rats by administrating CO2. M...
متن کاملFermentation and anaerobic respiration by Rhodospirillum rubrum and Rhodopseudomonas capsulata.
Rhodospirillum rubrum and Rhodopseudomonas capsulata were able to grow anaerobically in the dark either by a strict mixed-acid fermentation of sugars or, in the presence of an appropriate electron acceptor, by an energy-linked anaerobic respiration. Both species fermented fructose without the addition of accessory oxidants, but required the initial presence of bicarbonate before fermentative gr...
متن کاملThe Participation of Carbon Dioxide in the Carbohydrate Cycle
In previous papers (1, 2), experiments on the use of radioactive carbon, CY, to study certain aspects of carbohydrate metabolism in rats have been reported. It was shown that glycogen deposited in the liver of rats, 2.5 hours after sodium lactate feeding, contains but 1.6 per cent of the labeled carboxyl carbon of the administered lactate molecules; whereas the actual increase in glycogen depos...
متن کاملEffects of carbon dioxide-bicarbonate mixtures on oxidative phosphorylation by cauliflower mitochondria.
1. Carbon dioxide-bicarbonate mixtures markedly inhibited oxidation and phosphorylation rates of mitochondria prepared from cauliflower. Inhibition occurred with succinate, malate, citrate, isocitrate and NADH as substrates. 2. Indophenol-reductase systems with malate, succinate, isocitrate and NADH as substrates were inhibited by 5% and 15% carbon dioxide. Cytochrome c oxidase was not inhibite...
متن کاملReplacement of the pyruvate oxidation factor by carbon dioxide.
The catalytic r81e of the pyruvate oxidation factor (1, 2) in the production of active acetate for lipide synthesis by lactic acid bacteria has been described by Snell and Broquist (3). In the course of a survey of the pyruvate oxidation factor (POF) and acetate requirements of a collection of lactic acid bacteria, several strains were found that required either material for growth on gluconate...
